Noto Peninsula Earthquake - reaching out to animals in need【3】
We offer our deepest condolences to those affected by the Noto Peninsula earthquake in 2024.
A month has passed since the earthquake occurred, and while monitoring the restoration of the roads, we were able to enter Suzu City.
Despite restoration efforts, there are many dangerous areas due to ground upheaval causing cracks, fissures and deteriorations in Central to Northern Noto Peninsula. Due to the road damage and traffic buildup, it took more than double the time for aid to reach the area.
The damage that took place in the most northern part of Noto was significant, and the collapsed buildings could be seen immediately.
Throughout the city, sewage pipes protruding from the asphalt and fallen power lines could be seen. Even if the buildings were able to avoid collapse, red and yellow posters were displayed as a warning. It makes you wonder when the people and animals affected by this disaster would be able to return to their previous lives.
Regular aid efforts being paused after sundown and other necessary precautions should be taken to protect the staff and avoid any accidents.
With the limited time, there was much we were unable to do, but we plan to continue aid for the animals affected by this disaster.

Taking in animals
On February 7th we took in another dog from the disaster area. After the family’s house collapsed, they had to move into a home that didn’t allow pets and contacted Ark. After health check and medical care is completed, the profile will be posted in order to find a new adoptive family.
Boarding
On February 1, we took in a Shiba Dog whose owners had to move to no pet housing. We will keep the dog safely until they can be reunited. Eito soon got used to life at our Nose Shelter! He’s a playful and happy boy
Transportation
On February 7, we picked up 2 cats from Suzu, one of which is already 15 years old. We took them to a relative’s home in another prefecture. The family had made sure to have emergency supplies not just for themselves, but also for their cats.
