Special Edition of ARK Newsletter Now Available!

June 15, 2011

This special edition features the Tohoku earthquake & Tsunami.

ARK successfully rescued 173 animals from the areas affected by the disaster by June 15th thanks to supports from a huge number of people. We would like to take this opportunity to appreciate your warm support. Thank you very much.

Residents of Wakabayashi Ward, Sendai, who were affected by the earthquake and tsunami are apparently going to move into temporary housings in near future, which means that some of the rescued animals would be restored to their own families by the end of June. We are looking forward to the reunion days as much as the families are.

Meanwhile, the situation of evacuees from Fukushima due to the nuclear power plants is grim. No one has any idea when they can return to their houses. Some of them tearfully gave up on living with their animals and others are hoping to get their animals back even if it would take years to realize it. There are many stories with those people and animals.
In the past when we experienced the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake we kept recued animals for a long term, up to 10 years.
Acknowledging the possibility of having such a situation again, we determined to take good care of those animals kept in ARK with the first priority on their Quality of Life.

Thank you very much for your continued support in advance,
