BBC Drops Crufts Dog Show

As mentioned in Newsletter 72, the BBC is definitely pulling out of CRUFTS. The BBC had demanded that 14 breeds subject to inbreeding and deformities be allowed to enter Crufts but not be allowed to become breed champion nor best of show. The Kennel Club rejected this.

The 14 breeds are the basset hound, clumber spaniel, Dogue de Bordeaux, mastiff, Neapolitan mastiff, Pekingese, shar pei, St Bernard, chow chow, German Shepherd, bulldog, bloodhound, Rhodesian ridgeback and Cavalier King Charles spaniel. The BBC documentary featured a Cavalier King Charles suffering from syringomelia, a condition which occurs when a dog’s skull is too small for its brain.
