Handsome kishu ken Koji here. We are known to be incredibly intelligent, loyal, independent, eager to please and playful dogs by nature. I am, of course, ALL of these things. I love spending time running and playing in the large dog-run and I genuinely enjoy having people as company. As a typical Kishu, I will not be the cuddly and super affectionate type, but I show my love for people in a different way. Just having you in my presence with some gentle pats, makes me very happy. Staff think I didn’t have the easiest upbringing and perhaps I wasn’t treated so nicely, so I’m a little reserved but I know I will make a lovely addition to the right family. I am very active and healthy, but I may need some additional care for my sensitive skin. I am looking for an understanding family who have plenty of experience with dogs and are willing to come visit several times first before taking me home. This way, we can get to know each other over time and build a solid friendship first. I am waiting patiently everyday for the right person to come along and take me to my fur-ever home- fingers crossed, that day will come soon!

Fun fact: The Kishu Ken was designated a Natural Living Monument in Japan in the year 1934 and since then has been protected by law.
